PROFESSOR MOHAMMAD HAMMOURI (1940-2022)

The late Professor Mohammad Hammouri was a Jordanian Law Professor and a renowned attorney and an author of legal publications, born in Irbid, Jordan.

Professor Hammouri read law at the University of Cairo, Egypt and he was awarded his Doctorate Degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Law, the University of Cambridge, England (Ph.D. 1975).

Professor Hammouri was the Founder and Chief Senior Counsel of the Amman based law firm, Hammouri & Partners Attorneys at-Law.

Professor Hammouri was an accomplished Litigator with more than half a century of professional experience on all types of commercial negotiations and disputes, civil trials, all types of labour and employment disputes and white collar crime. Further, Professor Hammouri was an experienced Arbitrator practicing dispute resolution, mediation and arbitration, both in Jordan as well as internationally, as a Counsel in International Arbitration proceedings.

Professor Mohammad Hammouri was member of Board for various governmental bodies and organizations in Jordan, including member of the Board of Trustees for the Arab Anti-Corruption Organization and participant member in many national and international legal conferences.

In the political life of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Professor Hammouri served as a Minister of Culture and National Heritage (former) and as a Minister of Higher Education (former).

In the academia, Professor Hammouri was the Founding Dean of the First Law School in Jordan and later Professor at the same and a Vice President of the University of Jordan’s Board of Trustees.

Further accolades include the post of Visiting Professor at the Law School, University of Virginia, United States of America; former member of the International Advisory Board of the University of Hartford, Connecticut USA and Lecturer at the National Judicial Training Institute in Jordan.

Professor Hammouri was an author of a plethora of articles and books in constitutional law, litigation and political issues, with his latest publication, in 2017  the book titled “The Captured Freedoms between Tyrannous rule And Religion Exploitation; Fundamentals and the Bath to Salvation”.
