Hammouri and Partners has advised the Jordanian telecoms operator Umniah on the telecom’s fifth generation technology (5G) project in Jordan. This is a ground breaking, multi hundred-million-dollar deal, being the first 5G entry for Jordan.

 

As part of the transaction, during August 2022, Umniah Jordan, together with a second telecoms operator, concluded an agreement with the Jordanian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRC) for the introduction of 5G services in Jordan. The agreement included extension of the license of telecoms carriers up to 10 years, the grant of licenses for 5G frequencies, addressing and closing pending issues and achieving technology neutrality.

 

The transaction is one of the major deals in Jordan for the year 2022 and deemed as high-profile case of paramount importance due to its role in advancing communications and digital transformation in the Kingdom.

 

The role of the firm was key in advising Umniah telecoms and assisting with conducting their negotiations with the TRC. Also, assisting with all aspects of the deal, including the documentation and contract drafting. Additionally, the firm assisted Umniah with other licenses and with settling some pending matters.

 

Dr. Tariq Hammouri, the firm’s Managing Partner led the project and the negotiations.
